Geniuses Who Smoke Weed

The stereotype of marijuana users being lazy, unambitious, and slow-witted couldn’t be further from the truth. In reality, marijuana is a widely used medicine throughout all walks of life, and pot smokers run the full gamut of humanity. There are even weed smokers among the most celebrated minds the world has ever seen. Here are a few geniuses who smoke weed, and in doing so, shut down those negative stereotypes about pot enthusiasts.

Bill Gates

Considering this founder of Microsoft once said to be nice to nerds because one day you’ll work for one, you might be inclined to think that Bill Gates fits the mold of your average geek. In fact, according to biographers, Gates went through a stoner phase in college. Years later, he was also a public supporter of the push for legalization in his native state of Washington. Maybe he’s not a nerd after all. Or maybe we need to get rid of the misconception that nerds don’t love getting high!

Barack Obama

“I experimented with marijuana … I didn’t like it, and I didn’t inhale.” – Bill Clinton

On the other hand…

“When I was a kid, I inhaled frequently. That was the point.” – Barack Obama

#44 knows what’s up! Considered by many to be one of the smartest Presidents of all-time, this former editor of the Harvard Law Review and law professor at the University of Chicago has made no secret about his past dalliances with marijuana. Growing up in Hawaii, it’s hardly surprising that he’d try pot. Still, his candid remarks on the matter, especially in comparison to fellow ex-President Bill Clinton’s, are a breath of fresh air.

Carl Sagan

Carl Sagan’s claim to fame is his television series about the nature and vastness of the universe, Cosmos. But did you know that he credits smoking weed with awakening a deeper understanding of life and the universe within him? In 1969, Sagan even wrote a marijuana manifesto under the moniker Mr. X, in which he stated that “the illegality of cannabis is outrageous, an impediment to full utilization of a drug which helps produce the serenity and insight, sensitivity and fellowship so desperately needed in this increasingly dangerous world.” Clearly, this guy loved weed.
