CannabisCulture .ca Police Operation

Cannabis Culture, the iconic dispensary chain founded by cannabis activists Marc and Jodie Emery, was shut down in 2017 following a nationwide police operation called Project Gator, during which Toronto Police executed 11 search warrants across Cannabis Culture locations in Toronto, Hamilton, and Vancouver, arresting five people, including Marc and Jodie Emery on charges of conspiracy, drug trafficking, and possession of the proceeds of crime. As a condition of their release on bail, the Emerys were banned from any affiliation with the Cannabis Culture brand, effectively ending the chain entirely.

Project Gator brought an abrupt end to what Jodie Emery described as a civil disobedience model designed to demonstrate what legal adult-use cannabis retail should look like, before it had even really begun.
